Company Profile

 
Ellis & Company Limited was established in 1893 when a group of businessmen took over the existing business of Thomas Horace Ellis.  The company was incorporated in 1903.
 
Products in the early years were varied until 1920 when the company’s foundation was laid in the supply of products in the electrical and engineering fields – a strategy which has contributed to the company’s continued success with service and supply concentrated on Electrical & Engineering Manufacturers, Industries.  Government Departments & Public Bodies.
A reflection of the loyalty, and business integrity, of Ellis & Company is shown through the first electrical agency agreement which was signed with Crabtree Electrical Industries UK in 1919 (the year of their foundation) and today the company is still represented through the supply and sales of Crabtree switches and Appleby bulkhead lighting.
 

Product Base

 
The Company imports both stock and indent products from overseas but also supplies locally assembled products using imported and locally manufactured components.
 

Technical Sales & Marketing

 
A technical emphasis has become an integral part of Ellis & Company’s marketing mix.  Starting with a consultancy service at project level this permeates through to the employment of Sales Engineers to cover all aspects of development and servicing.  This thrust in the marketplace has a strong internal support from Customer Services, Marketing, Purchasing, Finance and Administration – in fact a complete emphasis on all aspects of the marketing mix.
 

Company Strategy

 
1984 marked a new stage in Ellis & Company’s strategy.  New ownership expanded a range of agencies and products to fill a perceived market need, namely for – “a reliable source for highly specialised electrical, mechanical and materials handling equipment”.  This has become the Company’s very fabric with the support of principals who, apart from being market leaders in their respective fields are able to offer engineering design and consulting advice in their relative spheres of operation.
 
This streamlining of the corporate strategy has led to the introduction of the “ellisco” logo to express more emphatically the Company’s role in the marketplace – that of being “specialised suppliers and consultants in electrical & mechanical engineering equipment”.
