University of Auckland: helping ensure an effective smoke control system

The University of Auckland’s School of Medicine redevelopment was part of its $2 billion, two-decade upgrade programme. The School delivers the faculty’s undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), facilitates and encourages clinical and applied research, and develops and delivers postgraduate programmes across the school’s clinical areas.

    What we did:
We were asked to specify, provide and install actuators for smoke control in the atrium area of the building. All actuators needed fire-rated cables.

We installed the actuators and ran fire-rated cables back to control boxes, working closely with the mechanical contractors and the façade company.

    The outcome:
The atrium and new café area feature high level windows for both smoke control and natural ventilation.
